Ants & Grasshoppers

My first blog post of the month, found a very good story to share and something for us to ponder again. No point for me to list what ugly things happening here, it's everywhere on the internet you can read the news. But one point to stress here, check out the moral of the story at the end of this post.

Older Version
An ant worked hard in the sweltering heat all summer, building its nest and laying up supplies for the winter.

A grasshopper thought the ant was stupid not knowing how to enjoy life. It spent its days laughing, singing & dancing thoroughly enjoying the summer.

Came winter, the ant was warm, comfortable and had no shortage of food. The grasshopper had no proper shelter, no stored food, and couldn't find anything to eat from the snow-covered ground. So it died and the story ended.

Moral of the story: Be responsible for yourself!

New Millennium Version

An ant worked hard in the sweltering heat all summer, building its nest and laying up supplies for the winter.

A grasshopper thought the ant was stupid not knowing how to enjoy life. It spent its days laughing, singing & dancing thoroughly enjoying the summer.

Came winter, the shivering grasshopper called a press conference and demanded to know why the ant should be warm and well fed while he was cold and starving.

TV1, TV2 & TV3 showed up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper alongside to a video clip of the ant in his comfortable home with a table full of food.

The majority of the Malaysian Parliamentarians were stunned by the sharp contrast. How could this poor grasshopper be allowed to suffer?

Khairy staged a demonstration in front of the ant's nest.

Nazri went on a hunger strike along with other grasshoppers demanding that they be relocated to warmer climate area during winter.

The Malaysian Government immediately passed a law forbidding all ants from working hard in the summer so as to bring about equality of poverty between ants and grasshoppers.

Hishammudin increased 'More Special Reservations' for grasshoppers in Educational Institutions & Government Services..

The ant was fined for failing to share 30% of his food with the grasshopper. The Prime Minister announced that this was part of the NEP. No ant should question it. (Don't forget, Tax Audits were introduced and targeted at certain individuals who were eventually penalised heavily for not contributing enough to the well-being of the grasshoppers).

Many years later...

Some ants migrated to the US and set up multi-billion dollar companies there.

Hundreds of grasshoppers still died of starvation despite the 'More Special Reservations'.

Losing significant number of hardworking ants and free-loading the grasshoppers, Malaysia remained a developing country, despite its abundant natural resources.

All because the remaining ANTS were still doing their work.

Latest findings showed that almost all the grasshoppers in the political arena and civil service were hoarding corrupt wealth which they refused to share with fellow grasshoppers.

Moral of the story: Be careful of how you vote in 2011.

I Can't Wait For The Next General Election

If we do a simple analysis on the results of the past 2008 General Election (GE), the East Malaysia, Sabah & Sarawak saved Barisan Nasional (BN) by giving them the edge over Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

Under Najib 1Malaysia, the popularity of ruling parties is definitely diminishing despite the mainstream medias in Malaysia which mainly controlled by the ruling government reporting endless conflicts within the opposition coalition.

As the title of this post itself, I got a very strong feeling that Malaysia is heading for a change. Malaysians are ready to get out of its so-called "comfort-zone" to at least try out the change.

Let's look at BN and its component parties in an overall picture since the 2008 GE.

Since I am a Chinese, I start with MCA who is representing the Chinese in Malaysia. Look at them now, they are a joke as far as I am concern. The conflicts within the party itself is far worst than the much reported disagreements between component parties in the Opposition.

Now, we look at MIC, party that represents the Indians in Malaysia. Where is this guy Samy Vellu now? Perhaps hibernating at the moment to keep low profile as there were high profile cases against him which was reported on Malaysia-Today.

Now, UMNO which I need not have to say more. The recent government supported demonstration (Najib & his cousin brother said it is ok for the public to protest on the Catholic publication, Herald for using the word "Allah" in their publication) & the protest had caused arson attacks on worship places. If you still remember, the very much peaceful BERSIH & HINDRAF rallies were entertained with tear gases & water cannons. Talking about inconsistencies.

And I have not even touch on issue where the Malaysia military force can afford to lose 2 jet engines. For foreigners reading this, don't laugh, it is true, my country military forces had recently said they lost 2 jet engines :)

All in all, I urge all my friends who have yet to register themselves as a voter, please do so to practice your right instead of complaining and talking about it in mamak or kopitiam. And be a well-informed voter by getting facts & truths from all independent sources.

Enjoy the below Al-Jazeera videos. Time to change!

What's Left Back Home in Malaysia?

This is the first time I am away from my home country for a long time. To be frank, I felt a bit alienated and trying my very best to cope with the life here in Hong Kong. It is not easy when you had been in a country for more than 2 decades, building your very own comfort zone, meeting friends, hanging out, mamak-ing, the food and suddenly you find yourself in a foreign country minus all these good o' times.

The first few days were a torture especially finding a good place for food at reasonable price and missing those fun with friends back home but I try to minimize those thoughts, focusing and observing the new culture that I need to blend into.

Somehow I really felt sorry for the state of my home country, Malaysia.
Over here in Hong Kong, people are so occupied of what they are doing and the locals are really professional about their daily tasks, be it the cleaner, the waiter, cashier or the hard labors. Everybody is fighting for survival, the more hardworking you are, the more rewarding it is. Indonesians & Philippinos are mainly seen as domestic maid here and the local Chinese seems to me to be able to find a living here.

Now back in my home country, being a Chinese, we tend to be picky with our jobs, simply because we are being paid crap salary. We import labors, and these labors subsequently shoot the crime in our country up. We have crap politicians trying to compare us to Vietnam & Cambodia.

And reading news about home, how in Malaysia the Chinese community can fight for its right when the component party that represents the Chinese in Malaysia is being operated by jokers?
And yes, I am talking about MCA. Our friend went berserk and sack yet another fella from his team because that fella is no longer seen as an ally (as many said). I do not blame OTK. Yes, he is seen to be a hero revealing the famous PKFZ scandals, but in Malaysia, you cannot work as a lone ranger. The PKFZ thing once revealed, it will nail a lot of those top people who walk the corridor of power. I do not think OTK can survive this fire fighting internally & externally.

Sigh... what happened man? I just a normal Malaysian who wants to see Malaysia like any other developed countries, is it too much to ask for? Can those who walk the corridor of power share their wealth with the people? And damn why my dad is not a politician? If he is, I probably would have better chance to survive and get financial assistance from any banks.

And stop talking bad about Pakatan Rakyat on how PAS, DAP & KeAdilan are having crisis. Fuck! At least those fellas dare to voice themselves up to condemn each other. MCA & MIC, you are seen to be OK with your partners because you watch too much of Jim Carrey's "YES MAN".

Just too much of bad publicity about Malaysia lately. Can't help myself but to rant aimlessly a bit.

Felt better now... Today, I had a chance to work closely with my client in Hong Kong, it had been a good experience for me to be called to join their internal sales & marketing meeting today. Long day but I learned a lot.
I am taking a day break off work tomorrow, meeting Malaysian friends here.

I promised no more on "no solution" political issue in my blog, will post more on my Hong Kong life here & pray for me dude, I responded to an interest on getting me a full-time employment in Thailand. Hopefully they can work out a reasonably good remuneration package for me, ciaoz for now :)

Ending the post with a life's good pose taken in Elements, Kowloon, Hong Kong :p

Malaysia - What's Left?

Being the country where I was born & raised, I should be proud to be a Malaysian. But somehow it is the reversal, yes some might argue that we are far better of than country like Cambodia & Vietnam but why do we want to compare ourselves to a country worst than us?

If one day, our natural resources depleted, what's there left for his country? The people who administrate this country are so narrow minded and only tackling on petty issues, trying to bring one another down, playing the religious card.

From the latest WHO updates, more than 32000 in Europe were infected with the pandemic H1N1 with 53 deaths. With South East Asia recorded more than 13,000 cases and 106 deaths, our country Malaysia champion again with 68 deaths! That is more than the whole entire Europe is recording! Don't you think the Health Minister should be accountable for this? What's measure been done? Quarantine & closing schools, colleges & universities? If you would look at the state of our government hospital now, would you be willing to even step in the hospital?

It's good to leave the country again seriously though I am going to miss my friends & family here and not to mention the food here especially Nasi Lemak. Other than that, this country has nothing left for me.

Sad... sad...

If Kids Can Understand, Why Can't Men?

While counting down to my last day of employment, I browsed through some of the great works of the late Yasmin Ahmad, these are some of my favorites;

Look carefully on the messages conveyed and whether it is by script or not, with all this nonsensical debates, arguments & criticisms, what's there left in this country?

And finally, this...

What's all these racial sentiments the politicians are shouting & fighting about? Aren't we all Malaysians? If I fell in love with a Malay, I'll convert cos love supersedes all other factor. Not the issue of race here, or who I choose as my friends, or who gets more than the other in the end of the day. Malaysia belongs to all, to us, KITA.

Malaysia at the current state - sad case!

Talking About Change

Change - it can be revolution or evolution. Malaysia? I am currently in Hong Kong, there are so many reasons that this country I felt safe & happy with. Malaysia? When back home, some still arguing whether the PM can be a Malay or a non-Malay, US had shown us the way. Does it really matter what color are you? What ethnic are you? Who care? As long as you are capable, I do not even care if you are orang asli. Like the China former president said in a Chinese proverb,

"... no matter if it is a black cat or a white cat, the cat that can catch a mouse is a good cat..."

After the political tsunami on 8th March 2008, we heard of Sept 16th, it did triggered my hope about this country, and after it fails, now we heard of rumor this December. Dead boring with Malaysian politic circus.

Even Taiwan shocked us with the arrestment of former President last night while we are famous of arresting somebody big accusing him backfucking (yet to be proven though). Deep shit!

Najib & His Chopper Deal

I still remember the first time I bought my car. Back then, I only had enough budget to get a car in the RM50k region, so after shortlisting some, I went to check out the car, made a few test drive and the decision making took me more than a month before I decided for Myvi.

Today our future PM, Najib had another kaboom. To sum it all, he decided to purchase 12 Eurocopter choppers at a price of RM2.317 billion. I would say the country can go ahead to buy the choppers as it do help the nation when it is in need.

But... but... for such a big deal and be it a government deal, normally it had to gone through the tender process. And as part of the tender process, testing is compulsory but how can a minister signed on a deal without testing the machines? And we are talking about RM2.317 billion. Perhaps he made some mistakes there but the people cannot help themselves but to think that "under table" is practiced in the deal. Don't blame the rakyat, proof us otherwise.

Malaysia-today reveals here.
More on The Malaysian Insider & Malaysiakini.

I cannot help but to think the project interview may sounded like this;

Tenderer 1

Interviewer: Your bid is 3 million. How do you justify your tender sum?

Korean tenderer: 1 million for labour, 1 million for materials and 1 million for expenses and a little profit.

Interview: Ok. Thank you. Next!

Tenderer 2

Interviewer: Your bid is 6 million. How do you justify your tender sum?

Japanese tenderer: 2 million for labour, 2 million for materials and 2 million for expenses and a little profit.

Interviewer: Ok. Thank you. Next!

Tenderer 3

Interviewer: Your bid is 9 million. This is way above everyone else. How do you justify your tender sum?

Malaysian tenderer: 3 million for YOU, 3 million for ME, and we get the Koreans to do it for 3 million.

Disappointed again & again & again... Once a Minister made a remark saying that, "...if the country continues to subsidize the petrol, the country might go bankrupt one day..." and the
above RM2.317 billion - money well spent?

We'll see what Najib got to say on this.

I Am Dumb But Melaka CM is Dumber

Shah Rukh Khan was awarded the title of "Datuk", the equivalent of a knighthood in Britain by the state in recognition of his promotion of the southern state through his films. Malacca Chief Minister Mohamad Ali Rustam said Khan had helped the state's tourism because six of his movies involved locations in Malacca, the New Sunday Times quoted him as saying.

source: Malaysia Insider

Still remember the Hong Kong movie, Summer Holiday starring Sammi Cheng & Richie Ren where most of the movie was shot in Melaka & Redang Island, Terengganu?

Then there should be Datuk Sammi Cheng & Datuk Richie Ren.

On Malaysian Politics

Some readers who frequented here must be wondering why I am not blogging about politics lately. Without many realizing it, it soon becoming a big joke. Politicians to some certain extent should have some wisdom and at the same time should be a role model to the people. But I am not seeing many, our political scene is more filled with 'Barisan Jokers' and it's even more dramatic than any TVB drama making Astro On-Demand expecting to lose some business to these jokers.

With Dollah announcing his plan not to defend the UMNO Presidency, Najib to go for the top post and few jokers going for the No. 2 post in UMNO. You see, everything about Barisan, it's also about UMNO. Presidency in UMNO automatically confirm one as Prime Minister, second man in UMNO will be the Deputy Prime Minister. Yes, Opposition did gave hope, I look at the Opposition coalition, it's really a good partnership for a Malaysian Malaysia - Malaysia for all races but all of a sudden, they went into hiding after failing to deliver the 916 or whatever the number they had promised us.

Malaysia is a rich country - we have oil & gas, plantation, rubber - plenty of resources, this includes human resource. We have plenty of bright talents but mostly opt to pursue their career out of the country. So what's left in Malaysia? Maybe we will not see it in 5-10 years to come, but if the current state continues and with jokers leading the country, Malaysia is going down in history as a joke.

We have Father of Independence, Development, Unity, Modernization and some even remarked the latest one as Father of Shame (Bapa Kemaluan). The script is like an auto-repeat itself, it is like listening to Sean Kingston's playing on the radio over and over again that you feel like smacking the radio. All politicians who about to come into power will always promise CHANGE.

I'll say, "CHANGE MY FOOT-LAH! SKRIP BODOH!"

ISA Rampage In Malaysia

Portfolio changes today. Dollah to take over the Defense Ministry while Najib to be the Finance Minister. It does not take a genius to figure why such arrangement was made. Image courtesy of The Malaysian Insider, read more here.

On top of that another blogger was arrested at 5PM today. Syed Azidi Syed Abdul Aziz aka kickdefella was arrested at Kota Bahru believed to be under the ISA and his controversial Malaysian flag incident. Malaysiakini reported here.

And a statement made by Dollah Badawi which rather disturbing. Mr. Prime Minister made a statement that opposition leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is a THREAT to the country's economy because of his constantly misleading remarks over investments and promises to topple the government. Read again ISA is detention without trial, no warrant needed and nobody know how long the detention will be. Who is threaten? The country or Dollah himself? Malaysiakini with its report here.

Grrr.....

916, 917, 918....... What's Going On?

I am dead tired. I almost miss my flight to Sabah yesterday, thanks for the kind people in MAS. Now this is the difference between MAS (MH) & Air Asia (AK). 30 minutes before you still allowed to check in while AK will ask you to go and fly kite.

So, the Malaysia Day is over. It does not happen which means RPK and Teresa Kok will still be detained under ISA. And this also means Dollah Badawi still is the PM. I was in Sabah yesterday, yesterday is also a public holiday in Sabah in conjunction of the Governor's birthday. I had a project meeting with a prominent developer with various developments in Sabah and over tea session we had a chat about Malaysian politics. He too agreed that we Malaysia needs a change, other Sabahan who I met during the session also voiced out the same.

I came back last time, touched down KLIA at about 10pm. A few buddies called to go for a drink and I went. "So it's Sept 16 now, what happen?" a friend asked. With a tired voice, I told them to be patient, few more days to come, we shall see.

So back to reality now, it's past 916. Everyone wants to see 916 after so many shits happen in this country. Much before the Permatang Pauh by-election and all these ridiculous ISA arrestments, nobody will talk bout the 916. And after Anwar successfully convinced the people about 916, majority of people in this country want to see a wind of change, some desperately like me. But what's going on? I feel like singing this song now...

Off to bed now... hopefully when I wake up later and open up Malaysiakini, there will be further good news...

ps: A fellow blogger friend quits blogging. I hope she will change her mind.

Anwar Said, "We Have The Numbers!"

Just got back home from the mass gathering to abolish ISA, solidarity call for the recent victims arrested under the ISA, detention without trial.

Great speeches from famous political fighters like Uncle Kit and Penang CM YB Lim Guan Eng. This is the 2nd major political gathering that I participated and the numbers definitely bigger than the previous PROTES 2008 that I attended. Met some prominent political bloggers there as well.

Final speech was from our Prime Minister in waiting, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Publicly, DSAI assured that he has the numbers to form a federal government and in fact today Pakatan Rakyat sent a letter to Dollah Badawi to arrange a meet up. A peaceful transition of power is from BN to Pakatan is one of the agenda in the letter co-signed by DSAI (PKR), Uncle Kit (DAP) & Hadi Awang (PAS). And Malaysia for once see hope when an UMNO minister, Datuk Zaid Ibrahim tendered his resignation today to Dollah. Anwar adviced the public to be patient and expect a surprise from the UMNO hero himself, Datuk Zaid.

Anwar again stressed that if Pakatan comes to power tomorrow, immediate decrease in petrol price and immediate release for all ISA detainees. Insyallah, god-willing, we will be bless in this holy Ramadhan month.

I end this post with few pictures taken at the gathering. Better catch some sleep as I am heading for Sabah later. Good night!

Vigil Tonight, Sabah Tomorrow

It's 6.30PM now. The weather seems gloomy, it seems like rain is unavoidable. Nevertheless, I will be there tonight for the solidarity for RPK. Having the privilege to work in the building beside the stadium, let me update a bit what's happening right now.

They ground peeps are erecting the PA systems and tents. And I can see many individuals setting up tables, perhaps for the buka puasa function later. Hopefully by then the weather will be on our side. For non-muslims, be there roughly around 9PM onwards as our Muslim friends will start their buka puasa session, Maghrib & Isyak prayers followed by Tarawih prayers.

Be there together and expect talks from leaders like YB Lim Kit Siang, YB Hadi Awang & Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Today's vigil expected to end at midnight.

And I will be carrying a big task tomorrow. Tomorrow, Sept 16th, I will be summoned to Sabah. And tomorrow is also a public holiday for Sabah in conjunction of the TYT's birthday. Will be there to see what I can do to make the frogs jump.

Hehehe... no lah, I am just joking. But the real fact is that I am going to Sabah on a project meeting not on politics. I will be back on the same day.

A hectic day. Luckily it's a holiday on Wednesday. See you peeps, let's pray Malaysia Day will come true.

Cheers!

Old Poll Retired, New Nuffnang Poll Kicks Off

I started a Nuffnang poll called "Prime Minister of Malaysia" not too long ago, about 100ish participated and here are my findings.

First question, "Who performed the best as PM for Malaysia since independence?". As expected Tun Dr Mahathir was elected the best performed PM, I too got to agree with this. Many perhaps are saying that the current political turmoil in BN was caused by Tun himself but look around us in Malaysia, whether you like it or not, Tun Mahathir did put Malaysia recognised in the world.

My second question was, "Who is the worst PM for Malaysia since independence?". Without me further elaborating, Dollah won this time around thanks for his flip-flopping and occassionally caught napping in meetings.

Many are unsatisfied with Dollah's administration at the moment. Many are unhappy and wanted change. Just like the rest, I would love to see the coming of Sept 16.

Finally, when asked who will be their most preferred choice to be the new PM replacing Dollah, Anwar garnered the most votes, followed closely by the No.1 blogger in Malaysia, Raja Petra while Najib can barely be seen with just a 11% votes.

Guess most of mikemmery's readers are opting for a change too. With Achmed case now put to rest (he had since been suspended for 3 years), Dollah biggest enemy now is the man who handpicked him as the PM. Tun Mahathir was reported to return to UMNO but... but... his membership will due to the current president's approval. Let's see the drama there. For once, BN looks like an underdog this time around.

Oh ya, I started a new poll, please do play a part of it. Thanks to all previous voters.

Got to run for my pint of Guinness now.

Ciaoz!

MCA & GERAKAN: Time To Say Goodbye

Penang Gerakan severed ties with UMNO Penang. (Malaysiakini news here)

Penang MCA also severed ties with UMNO Penang. (Malaysian Insider reported here)

All this because, Achmed said Chinese are "immigrants" in Malaysia before the independence & he had also liken the Chinese to the "American Jew", while supporter tore up a photograph of Gerakan acting president Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon.

It's time to say goodbye not only for Penang branch. It's time for the whole Malaysia to do so. Don't you think so?

NEW UPDATES, NEW POSTER, NEW MALAYSIA here.

Permatang Pauh - The Verdict

UPDATES (6.10PM): It was reported that Dollah the sleepyhead flew back to Kuala Lumpur from Penang. Is Dollah accepting the fact that he is losing and there will be no celebration later in BN camp? Poll results expected to be announced at 8PM tonight.

UPDATES (5.38PM): Statistics - Anwar won 61% of vote based on PKR exit polls. If 80% of registered voters in PP turnout, it means that Anwar gained 28,000 votes compared to Arif 18,000 votes. Source: Malaysiakini

UPDATES (5.32PM):
A friend msg saying DSAI won with majority more than 10,000 votes. I cannot assure about the fact but this friend has connection with the media ;)

Many political bloggers blogged live on this. Voting just ended at 5PM. According to
Malaysian Insider, votes are not tallied yet but phantom voters and police reports of violence have been. Opposition claims at least five buses of phantom voters while Botak Minister has called this by-election the most violent in our history with 70 police reports made since the Aug 16 nomination day.

Violence? Hmm... Hopefully some good news, a win is expected for Anwar, the matter is how big the margin is. Datuk Seri Wan Azizah won with a majority of 13,000 during the last 8th March political tsunami.

Stay tune, hopefully I can update on the verdict. Blogging live now at Starbucks, Kota Damansara. As at 5.15PM, a fellow friend sent an MSN message, "Anwar won the by-election", will confirm on this later.

On a separate note, have any Maxis users experiencing network problem yesterday? Called up Maxis customer service, was told that the whole of Selangor may experience the problem. My phone was out for at least an hour last evening.

Cheers!

Permatang Pauh By-Election - Final Online Campaign

I was unable to join the rest of other prominent political bloggers in Permatang Pauh. But sehati sejiwa, we should get our prayers answered. Just read Uncle Zorro's latest post from the blogger op centre in Permatang Pauh, you guys rock!!!

Penangites, it's holiday on the 26th for you, this holiday is not just some casual holiday, this day will determine our children & country future. Let's put the People's Power into practise. Makkal Sakthi!!! So, it was reported on MSM that AMK of PKR responsible for the reporter bashing. Before that look at the picture below. Who bashed who?

OK, OK. Some might say PKR people sew it to the vest and snapped the picture and circulated it in the internet. OK, fine. How about this? Remember the Imam in the picture below?

Now, here's the twist. Ustaz Ramlang Porigi who officiated Sai-fool's much publicised swearing on Quran appeared at PKR's ceramah last night and this was what he said,

"SAYA DIARAHKAN"

Hmm... diarahkan by who? Read here, here & here. The choice is clear. Very clear indeed. Will we see another Lin Dan - Lee Chong Wei tomorrow? All the best Pakatan Rakyat!!!

Permatang Pauh - Malaysian Hope

With 2 days to go to Permatang Pauh by-election, I have my duty to spread the news to as many possible. I am not a person who fancy any individual but I am sure I want to see a change in this sad state of Malaysia. For 50 years, this country had been ruled by one political coalition, the BN. Look at the States, British, from Labor to Democrat, from Democrat to Republic, who are the one afraid of change? The BN warned of economical instability if Pakatan Rakyat (PR) is to rule, the BN also warned that Malays' rights will not be uphold should PR form the government. These are mere sayings, have we actually given PR a chance to administrate our country? The logic is simple, it is about people's power, if PR fails us, we kick them out the next election. What is BN afraid of? Or why the component parties in BN fail to voice themselves up?

Not everyone can be a politician. I am not a fan of DSAI but his charisma, his influence, his knowledge & wisdom and his logic overshadowed any other politician in the BN. I believe Tun Mahathir perhaps is the closest rival to DSAI if he is still at power. Badawi just flip-flop too much, his family and his personal life had made him the worst Prime Minister of Malaysia. His poor command of English and his constant caught in the act catching cat-nap in seminars, conferences, meetings, etc - how can this guy run a country?

Like many Malaysians, we do want to see a CHANGE. Permatang Pauh belongs to the PR, until Datuk Seri Wan Azizah sacrificed it to allow his husband to contest the by-election. This is not about an individual, this is about the agenda & manifesto of a political coalition. I definitely do not want the Permatang Pauh be represented by some bogus PhD holder. Let's go for a checkmate! Vote PR!

And do check out the video on Arif Shah courtesy of The Dandelions, you better believe it, it's true, it's true...

The choice is clear innit?
